Me
I am a writer, publisher,
and archaeologist
who
lives in Chirnside
in the south-eastern corner of Scotland. I enjoy
cycling around the Merse and flying over the Cheviots; so far I have managed not
to get the two activities confused.
This is me and a
few friends, taken in Romania in 1987 on what was quaintly termed the Joint Expedition
to the Roman Provinces of the Danube (JERPD: covering over 7000
miles, we visited Hungary, Bulgaria,
Romania,
and Yugoslavia). The photo was taken at Sarmizegetusa Regia, capital of
the
Dacian King Decebalus; it can only be reached by off-road vehicle,
hence
the presence of Gertrude (gone but not forgotten). My illustrious
companions are
(from
left to right) Bill Griffiths, Peter Guest, Jon
Coulston, Hazel Dodge,
and Liviu
Petculescu.
